Athenian Platform Core

v8.11.68 October 6, 2026
Shared schema, services, policy, CPTs, and UI kit for Vendor Marketplace & User Sub-Products.

Overview

Athenian Platform Core

Athenian Platform Core Developer Document

Scope

This document describes the implementation currently present in this repository for the MU plugin Athenian Platform Core (MU) (athenian-platform-core.php, version 8.11.68 at time of review).

APC is the shared platform layer for Athenian commerce. It does not replace feature plugins such as vendor dropship, Print Forge, or Product Add-ons. Instead, it coordinates their pricing, cart payloads, APIs, and post-order persistence so WooCommerce remains consistent across product page, cart, checkout, Store API, GraphQL, and admin.

High-level responsibilities

APC currently provides these major responsibilities:

  • Kernel-aware bootstrap and shared schema registration
  • WooCommerce runtime integration, including HPOS and Cart/Checkout Blocks compatibility
  • Vendor-aware pricing and vendor offer management
  • Store API cart extensions under extensions.apc, extensions.apa, and extensions.apf
  • Cart-to-order metadata persistence and order confirmation rendering
  • APF image and payload bridging
  • APA add-on payload bridging
  • User Sub-Products CPT and earnings capture
  • AI control plane, settings, provider dispatch, and REST endpoints
  • Platform admin UI, developer diagnostics, and media library controls
  • Optional GraphQL exposure for APC pricing and vendor data

Architecture summary

Plugin type

APC is written as an MU plugin and is designed to work safely in both:

  • standard plugin placement
  • mu-plugins placement

It defines:

  • APC_PATH
  • APC_URL
  • APC_VERSION

and registers a PSR-4 autoloader for the namespace Athenian\PlatformCore\.

Hard dependency

The plugin treats Athenian Platform Kernel as a required dependency for most of its real boot path. If Kernel is not present, APC:

  • shows an admin notice unless disabled in settings
  • skips core subsystem boot

Kernel availability is detected through:

  • \Athenian\Kernel\Schema
  • \Athenian\Kernel\Plugin

Bootstrap order

At a high level APC boots in this order:

  1. constants and autoloader
  2. admin settings/UI bootstrap on plugins_loaded
  3. Kernel schema registrations on plugins_loaded
  4. Woo compatibility declarations on before_woocommerce_init when APC is ru

ing as a standard plugin, or when an explicit compatibility plugin file override is provided

  1. full APC subsystem boot on plugins_loaded after Kernel check
  2. schema upgrades, roles, order hooks, integrations, and asset registration on init
  3. frontend script loading and REST helpers on wp_enqueue_scripts

Request-level bypass

For admins only, APC can be bypassed for a request with:

  • ?apc_bypass_core=1

Direct shortcodes and shortcode-aware behavior

APC-owned shortcode

APC directly registers one shortcode:

| Shortcode | Purpose | Attributes | Notes | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | [apc_mini_cart] | Renders a compact cart summary list for headers or custom layouts. | limit (default 3) | Implemented by Athenian\PlatformCore\Cart\APC_Mini_Cart. |

Example:

[apc_mini_cart limit="5"]

Related PHP helper

APC also exposes a helper function for PHP templates/snippets:

ab_render_cart_summary(3);

This is a wrapper around the mini-cart renderer and is useful when the site wants the same markup without using a shortcode.

APF shortcode-aware frontend loading

APC does not register APF shortcodes itself, but it explicitly watches page content for APF shortcode tokens so that APC cart JavaScript is loaded when an APF-driven add-to-cart experience is present.

The current detection list is:

  • apf
  • apf_common
  • apf_texture
  • apf_3d_texture
  • apf_contour
  • apf_mockup

That means APC has two shortcode-related roles:

  • it owns [apc_mini_cart]
  • it adapts its frontend runtime to pages rendered by APF shortcodes

Frontend scripts and JS globals

Common frontend helpers

APC registers or enqueues these notable frontend scripts:

  • apc-rest-core
  • apc-cart-core
  • apc-cart-capture
  • apc-cart-apa
  • apc-cart-submit
  • apc-cart
  • apc-user-media-gallery

Common globals

Developers working in themes or companion plugins should know these globals can be present:

  • AthRest
  • root
  • nonce
  • apfCartCfg
  • storeApiNonce
  • window.APF_CART
  • storeApiNonce
  • ajaxUrl
  • nonce
  • window.bcCartNonce
  • APCVendorSelectorConfig
  • APC_VENDOR_CATALOG
  • APC_Core_Admin
  • APC_AI_Admin

Cart JS auto-enqueue heuristics

APC cart JS loads when any of these are true:

  • Woo product page
  • request contains ab_buybox
  • a singular post contains one of the APF shortcode tokens listed above
  • a developer forces it with the filter ath/apc/enqueue_cart_js

    Representative source context:

    • This document describes the implementation currently present in this repository for the MU plugin Athenian Platform Core (MU) (athenian-platform-core.php, version 8.11.59).
    • APC is the shared platform layer for Athenian commerce. It does not replace feature plugins such as vendor dropship, Print Forge, or Product Add-ons. Instead, it coordinates their pricing, cart payloads, APIs, and post-order persistence so WooCommerce remains consistent across product page, cart, checkout, Store API,...
    • APC currently provides these major responsibilities:
    • APC is written as an MU plugin and is designed to work safely in both:
    • and registers a PSR-4 autoloader for the namespace Athenian\PlatformCore\.

Troubleshooting

Review gates
  • This document remains unpublished until the reference material and live behavior are manually verified.
  • Version drift requires review before publication: live 8.11.68, canonical 8.11.59.
  • The current DevDocs 0.4.1 batch uses a compatibility scan for this MU plugin; native MU enumeration should be added to the plugin in a later refinement.
