Athenian Quote Builder

v0.2.0 October 6, 2026
A quote-first WooCommerce workflow for negotiated, custom, and review-required orders.

Overview

Product overview

Athenian Quote Builder adds a structured quote-to-order workflow to WooCommerce. Instead of forcing every customer into immediate checkout, it gives shoppers a dedicated quote cart, lets them submit product selections and requirements for review, allows admins to review and send quotations from WooCommerce, and gives customers a My Account approval path that converts accepted quotations into standard pending-payment WooCommerce orders.

The plugin is designed for B2B, custom-product, negotiated-pricing, commercial-review, and lead-time-sensitive sales where the listed catalog price is not always the final transaction price. It keeps quote intake, quote review, customer approval, email notification, and order conversion inside WooCommerce instead of pushing the workflow into disconnected forms, spreadsheets, PDFs, or manual email threads.

---

Dedicated quote cart that preserves product, variation, and option context.
Admin review, pricing adjustment, customer notification, and approval workflow.
Customer My Account approval and conversion into standard payable WooCommerce orders.
Extension points for cost, margin, lead-time, AI, and marketplace integrations.

Use cases

  • B2B negotiated pricing
  • Custom-product review before payment
  • High-ticket sales approval
  • Lead-time and supplier-dependent quoting

Developer

Developer starting point

This baseline was generated from the local athenian-quote-builder source folder and the linked product record. The source folder is the reviewed implementation boundary for this pass; runtime behavior remains deployment-dependent; the GitHub repository identity for this documentation baseline is verified.

Technical Architecture

Bootstrap

Main file:

athenian-quote-builder.php

The bootstrap defines constants, declares HPOS compatibility, registers a lightweight PSR-4-style autoloader for the Athenian\QuoteBuilder\ namespace, checks for WooCommerce, loads translations, and initializes the plugin through Athenian\QuoteBuilder\Plugin::instance().

Important constants:

ATH_QB_VERSION     = '0.2.0'
ATH_QB_SLUG        = 'athenian-quote-builder'
ATH_QB_SESSION_KEY = 'ath_qb_quote_cart'
ATH_QB_CAP         = 'manage_woocommerce'

PHP Namespace Structure

| Namespace / Class | Responsibility | |---|---| | Athenian\QuoteBuilder\Plugin | Main lifecycle and hook registration. | | Athenian\QuoteBuilder\WC\Statuses | Quote statuses and quote-order helper checks. | | Athenian\QuoteBuilder\Util\QuoteCart | Session-backed quote cart and WooCommerce quote order persistence. | | Athenian\QuoteBuilder\Frontend\Shortcodes | Quote buttons, quote builder page, and quote count shortcodes. | | Athenian\QuoteBuilder\Frontend\Ajax | Add/update/remove/clear quote AJAX handlers. | | Athenian\QuoteBuilder\Frontend\Assets | Frontend/admin CSS and JavaScript loading. | | Athenian\QuoteBuilder\Frontend\MyAccount | My Account quotation endpoint and accept/reject flow. | | Athenian\QuoteBuilder\Admin\Admin | WooCommerce Quotes page, metaboxes, admin-post handlers, order actions. | | Athenian\QuoteBuilder\Analysis\QuoteAnalysis | Quote cost, margin, floor, lead-time, and risk analysis. | | Athenian\QuoteBuilder\AI\Suggestions | Optional OpenAI Responses API integration and structured sales guidance. | | Athenian\QuoteBuilder\Emails\Emails | Quote lifecycle email notifications. |

Admin Workflow

1. Review Submitted Quotes

Admins open WooCommerce → Quotes to see submitted quote requests in quotation or quotation-sent status.

2. Open Quote Order

The quote opens as a WooCommerce order, preserving products, line items, variations, customer details, request notes, and quote metadata.

3. Adjust Pricing or Details

Because quotes are WooCommerce orders, admins can use WooCommerce’s order-editing tools to adjust line item pricing, customer information, totals, fees, or other order details before sending the quotation.

4. Review Intelligence

The Quote Intelligence metabox provides modeled cost, price floor, margin, lead time, and risk signals when platform cost services are available.

5. Generate AI Guidance

Admins can optionally generate structured AI sales suggestions from the order editor if Athenian Secure API Key Manager has OpenAI credentials configured.

6. Send Quote

Admins send the quotation from either:

  • the Quotes list action
  • the Athenian Quote side metabox
  • the WooCommerce order action ath_qb_send_quote

The order status changes to quotation-sent, an order note is added, and ath_qb_quote_sent fires.

---

Customer Workflow

1. Add Products to Quote

A shopper uses an Add to Quote button rendered by [ath_add_to_quote]. The frontend script reads the surrounding WooCommerce product form, captures selected variations and option data, and sends an AJAX request to add the item to the quote cart.

2. Manage Quote Items

The customer visits the quote builder page rendered by [ath_quote_builder]. The interface shows current quote items with product thumbnails, names, SKU or product ID, selected options, requested quantity, remove controls, and a clear-quote option.

3. Submit Quote Request

The customer enters:

  • name
  • email
  • company, optional
  • notes or requirements

Submitting the quote converts the draft quote cart into a submitted WooCommerce quotation order and clears the active quote session.

4. Review Sent Quote

After an admin sends the quotation, the customer sees the quote in My Account and can open the order view.

5. Accept or Reject

The customer can accept the quotation and proceed to payment, or reject it and mark the quote as cancelled.

Troubleshooting

Baseline review boundary
  • This is a published baseline generated from local source documentation and the linked WooCommerce product record.
  • Confirm the deployed plugin version, active dependencies, and current repository tree before using implementation details as a release contract.
  • Treat pricing, payment, vendor, shipment, inventory, and external-provider behavior as integration-dependent until exercised in the target environment.
  • The local source checkout is the baseline; add a verified repository URL and commit if the source is later reconciled to a canonical GitHub tree.
